We are pleased to see that a new record high number of Indigenous candidates are actively participating in WA’s political life. At Friends of Australian Rock Art we look forward to a more lively engagement of the Aboriginal population, as we believe this can bring about positive changes in all fields, from education and health, to a better understanding, appreciation and protection of their rich culture and heritage, of which so little is known by the wider population.

“Hopefully as we craft policies as we legislate, as we interact on committees with other people on the other side, greater respect for the dignity of Indigenous people will flow,” newly elected Labor senator Pat Dodson said.

Ken Wyatt, Liberal candidate for the seat of Hasluck and Australia’s first Indigenous federal minister, commented on the number of Indigenous candidates as “a point in history”.
